Why is semi-hydroponic so popular ?
Semi-hydroponic growth has gained popularity due to its efficiency, offering precise control over plant nutrition and hydration. It reduces water waste and minimizes the risk of overwatering or underwatering, leading to healthier plants. Additionally, semi-hydroponic systems often require less maintenance compared to traditional soil-based methods, making them appealing to both experienced and novice gardeners. Moreover, the use of lightweight expanded clay aggregate (LECA) pebbles or similar substrates in semi-hydroponic setups promotes better aeration and root health, further contributing to the popularity of this growing method.
The Pot & Pebble planter excels in semi-hydroponic gardening for several reasons:
  1. Efficient Watering: Its design ensures optimal moisture levels for plants, preventing issues like overwatering or underwatering commonly associated with traditional methods.
  2. Root Health: The use of clay pebbles promotes excellent aeration and drainage, fostering healthy root development and minimizing the risk of root rot.
  3. Low Maintenance: The self-watering system and transparent glass design make it easy to monitor water levels and plant health, reducing the need for frequent watering and maintenance.
  4. Versatility: The planter accommodates various plant types, from orchids to herbs, providing flexibility for different gardening preferences.
  5. Aesthetic Appeal: With its sleek glass construction and separate base, the Pot & Pebble planter adds a touch of elegance to any indoor space, enhancing the overall visual appeal of the garden.
Popular semi-hydroponic media include LECA pebbles, perlite, vermiculite, coconut coir, and rockwool. LECA (Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate) is favored for semi-hydroponic gardening due to its excellent water retention and aeration properties, promoting healthy root development.
Recommended plants for the Pot & Pebble semi-hydroponic planter include orchids, pothos, philodendrons, spider plants, peace lilies, snake plants, ferns, herbs like basil and mint, and leafy greens such as lettuce and kale.

Adjust the concentration or frequency of application as needed for your semi-hydroponic setup. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for proper dilution and application to ensure optimal plant health and growth.

  1. The day before planting, thoroughly rinse the LECA pebbles and immerse them in water for a duration of 12 hours.
  2. Remove your plant from its original pot, wash away old potting media and dead roots. Transfer it into your new Semi-Hydroponic container and fill with pre-soaked Leca pebbles. Gently shake to settle the pebbles and fill gaps.
  3. Fill the pot with room temperature water over the sink, letting it flush out through the drain holes. Repeat every 2-3 weeks.
  4. After draining, ensure the water level is slightly below the drain holes and the roots to keep the pebbles hydrated.
